The topic of productivity often comes up when people want to go above and beyond their normal work schedule, and work harder to achieve their goals. This is a great mindset to have, but you also need to have a good balance in your life. Otherwise, you won’t be enjoying yourself, and your motivation won’t last.
Here are some tips for working on a better work-life balance that also allows you to get everything done.
Give Yourself at Least an Hour a Day for Yourself
No matter how busy of a day you have, there should be at least one point in the day where you have time just to yourself. If necessary, wake up an hour earlier or go to bed an hour later to fit this in. It is really important that your entire day isn’t just about work.
This should hopefully be time just for yourself, and not mixed in with family time or when you have obligations to other people. Think of it as a way to practice some self-care, whether it is reading a book in the silence late at night, or enjoying some time in the morning to write in your journal or sit on your patio with a cup of coffee.
Set Boundaries
A healthy way to live a more balanced life is to set boundaries with other people. You don’t have to be rude about it or completely cut other people out of your life, but have some healthy boundaries about what you can do and when.
If someone is texting you constantly all day and distracting you, then it is taking away from your focus and productivity. Let them know that you will be available only at certain times. The same goes for people who expect too much of you when you are having free time, and want you to help them with things. Learn how to say no and make sure you have a more balanced life.
Create Routines for Work and Personal Life
You should ideally have two set of routines each day: your work routines and your personal routines. It is important that these are kept separate and don’t overlap. Your morning routine likely starts with personal tasks you do just for yourself, then you go into your work morning routine. Don’t combine them, otherwise it feels like you never get a break from either one of them.
